Catholics in Mumbai are outraged at a skeptic who pointed out that their latest miracle was full of it . . . literally.
The local Catholics spotted water dripping from a crucifix in Mumbai’s western suburbs. They eagerly lapped up the “miracle water”, thinking it had magical powers.Sanal Edamaruku, president of the Indian Rationalist Association and Rationalist International, inspected the site and pinpointed the source of the water. A leaking toilet drain.
For explaining that the only “magic power” the water has is to transfer gastrointestinal infections and other disease, Edamaruku now faces up to three years in prison for “blasphemy”.
“It’s a case of miracle-mongering,” Edamaruku told AFP from his home in New Delhi. “Any kind of miracle-mongering is ultimately to get money and power.”
Accusing him of spreading “anti-Catholic venom” during televised debates on the crucifix, outraged religious groups in Mumbai have filed police complaints that could see Edamaruku jailed for up to three years under India’s blasphemy law.
Joseph Dias, general secretary of the Catholic-Christian Secular Forum, lodged one of the complaints, claiming it was the result of Edamaruku’s “”very obvious and stridently anti-Christian bias”.
Edamaruku, who has spent the last 30 years debunking India’s mystics and gurus who attract massive followings (and fortunes), welcomes the charges as an opportunity to challenge India’s blasphemy law.
While India is formally a secular nation, has a law which bans “deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs”. Edamaruku points out that this holdover from the colonial period runs counter to free expression. It also appears to prohibit scientific explanation of so-called “miracles”!
Laws against blasphemy have no place in a modern, diverse nation. Not only do they suppress scientific investigation of claims of the supernatural, but they also can be used to prevent a minority religion from stating that the majority religion is simply “wrong”.
Anda sedang mencari pengamal perubatan Islam (ghaib) a.k.a. Bomoh? Anda mempunyai simtom atau tanda-tanda penyakit luarbiasa? Terkena “buatan orang”? Gangguan makhluk halus? Santau? Sihir? Pukau?
Tak perlu risau. Usah biar hidup anda diselubungi misteri. Kenapa?

Kedua-dua tiada bukti kewujudan.

Lama resah kita—demokrasi luka;
lama duka kita—demokrasi lara.
Demokrasi yang angkuh, kita cemuhi;
suara bebas yang utuh, kita idami!
Dua abad lalu Sam Adams berseru:
(di Boston dijirus teh ke laut biru):
Tak diperlu gempita sorak yang gebu,
diperlu hanya unggun api yang syahdu.
Kini menyalalah unggun sakti itu;
kini merebaklah nyala unggun itu.
Four members of a family paid the ultimate price after they were duped by a medium into drinking milk which had been laced with weedkiller.
Three of them died within days of consuming the lethal concoction.
The story began when M. Karuppannan, 65, decided to seek the help of a ‘Holy Man’ to mend broken ties with his eldest son Sargunan, 38, after the two had not been on talking terms for a while.
It is believed that Karuppannan brought the medium back to the family home to have him perform some sort of blessing ritual which includes the drinking of milk as part of the ceremony.
What was unbeknownst to Karuppannan, his wife Sakunthala, 63, and their other two children; Manivaran, 33, and K. Rajeswary, 28, was the fact that the medium had spiked their milk with weedkiller. They passed out almost immediately after drinking it.
When Karuppannan came to, he was being dragged out of the house by his wife and children after they regained consciousness. That was all he could remember before they were taken to the hospital.
In a sad twist of fate, his wife and two children died a few days later. Postmortem reports showed that they died from poisoning.
People should be wary and be extra cautious when seeking alternate solutions to problems, including family disputes and medical ailments.
- Selangor Police Chief Datuk Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah
Well, I would like to go one step further than what the Police Chief had to say in that we should all be wary of these so-called spiritual healers (regardless of faith). They’re ALL frauds. That’s the bottomline.
There has not been any scientific proof to demonstrate that these types of healings work. At best, they’re just placebos.
It’s sad how people could easily be duped by superstitious, religious rubbish. In this case, three people lost their lives. Hopefully, we could do away with nonsensical beliefs. The authorities should end this once and for all… for the benefit of the people.

In My Opinion…
You bagi bukti baru I percaya. Else, jinns do not exist.
